1) I like my computer/programs to run even when I am not connected to the internet.(usually on my laptop)
2) I dont want to pay a monthly service charge for using a program I have already bought.
3) Programs running locally will always be faster and more feature rich than a web based program.(Just look at Gmail vs Thunderbird)
4) I like my privacy, with the service computing model, its too easy for companies to invade my privacy.
5) Today, when you buy a program, you OWN it. With the service model, they can change the license agreement at will.
6) I dont want my computer to fail just because someone else is having a problem with their computers.
7) I dont want my software to lag because too many people are hitting the servers simultaneously.
Every time software is updated, there is the potential for something to go wrong. I will update when I WANT to update. Or in other words, "If it aint broke, dont fix it".
9) DRM benefits big business and does NOTHING for consumers except cause headaches.
10) Each program that wants outbound/inbound access is a potential security risk. Using Zonealarm, I refuse access except for programs that I trust that need it.(Such as Firefox, Thunderbird, anti-virus, etc) Have you ever wondered why Windows Media Player needs to make an outbound request each time you play a video/song??? Hmmmm….

Kostnaden är fn £1 per vecka för obegränsat antal meddelanden.

Mobiloperatörerna är pressade av Voice over IP och det här är en intressant utveckling då SMS-meddelanden i UK står för 20% av operatörernas vinster, med över 100 miljoner sms-meddelanden per dag bara i UK.

I agree with Michael Robertson, the man behind AjaxWrite, that this and other Ajax Word products like Writely and Zoho Writer significanly reduce the need for most of the world’s population to buy Microsoft Word.

För dig som vill testa en tidig version av Firefox 2, men som inte vill installera över din stabila version av Firefox finns nu en lösning.

Den tidiga alphan av Firefox 2 har problem med avinstallationsdelen. Dessutom fungerar inte vissa insticksprogram helt som de ska. Well, we knew this was coming – it was just a matter of time before someone announced that RFID chips, as they stand now, could be “infiltrated” by a virus. With hardly any memory (at least current commercial designs), why would anyone want to infect an RFID chip with a virus? What is the motivation?

To diffuse its use, perhaps? Well, if in short time we are all shopping at Wal-Mart with our virus propagation scanners in our pockets zinging out RFID chips in the aisles, is this a huge threat to the upcoming popularity of RFID use in retail or even other areas? How destructive can an RFID virus’s payload be? We are sure to find out, and since RFID was designed with little to no security, we’ll see how this affects the RFID marketplace. Japan ligger steget före. Igen. Nu har man fiffat till det så att man kan använda en telefon med RFID som husnyckel. Tekniken skall heta MoCoCa – Mobile Communication and Control for Comfortable Area. Komfortabelt! Grymt praktiskt att slippa släpa omkring på en massa nycklar. Vissa är väldigt kräsna över hur mycket telefonen väger, men glömmer helt allt det järnskrammel i form av nycklar som man drar omkring med. Nu är det bara att vänta till år 2027 eller så – när tekniken kommer till Sverige…
